DJ TIM SPINS: INTERNATIONAL HOUSE DJ, PRODUCER AND LONDON DJ ACADEMY MENTOR

DJ Tim Spins is a London-based deep house, soulful house and funky house DJ, producer and educator whose career spans decades of involvement in club culture, international performances and DJ education. Known for blending hypnotic grooves, soulful vocals, timeless disco influences and underground house classics, Tim brings musical knowledge, technical precision and a genuine passion for connecting with an audience to every performance.
His journey began under his original DJ name, DJ Hermes, before he became known professionally as DJ Tim Spins. His career has developed through years of performing, promoting events, working behind the scenes and sharing his knowledge with aspiring DJs. Today, he brings that experience to London DJ Academy, where he helps students develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the DJ industry.

FROM PENGEPARTY TO LONDON’S CLUBBING HERITAGE

A defining chapter in Tim’s career is his long-standing association with Pengeparty, the London club promotion established in 1995 by his brother, Jason Lorimer, and the wider team. Tim became a resident DJ and co-promoter, contributing to a promotion that developed a distinctive identity within London’s house music and nightlife scene.
Pengeparty was built around more than music alone. Its reputation grew through carefully selected line-ups, memorable venues, a loyal following and the work required to create distinctive clubbing experiences. Tim’s involvement gave him first-hand experience of both performing for audiences and understanding the organisation and promotion behind successful events.
The promotion received notable editorial recognition. M8 DJ Magazine featured Penge Party at number three in its Top Parties feature, in a listing associated with Chelsea Football Ground. In 2000, Ministry magazine ranked Penge at number ten in its Top Ten Clubs feature. Pengeparty was also nominated twice for the London Club Awards.
These milestones form an important part of Tim’s professional background, reflecting the reputation that Pengeparty developed during a significant period in London’s clubbing history.

PERFORMING AT ICONIC VENUES IN LONDON AND BEYOND

Throughout his career, Tim has performed at a variety of established London venues, including Ministry of Sound, Pacha London, Café de Paris, McQueen Nightclub, Camden Town Hall and Chelsea Football Club.
His international experience extends to destinations including Ibiza, Italy, Amsterdam and Marbella, connecting his musical journey with different audiences and clubbing environments.
His work in Italy also included representation through the Italian DJ agency Musiko, as described in his career history. These international connections contributed to his understanding of different musical environments and the importance of adapting a performance to its audience.
For Tim, every venue presents a different opportunity to connect through music. Understanding the room, selecting the right records and managing the energy of a set are central to his approach.

A DISTINCTIVE SOUND: DEEP, SOULFUL AND FUNKY HOUSE

Tim’s musical identity is rooted in deep house, soulful house and funky house, with a strong appreciation for disco and underground classics. His sets combine rich vocals, rolling basslines, tight percussion and smooth transitions, creating a musical journey that can move from warm, atmospheric selections to energetic dancefloor moments.
Rather than relying on a fixed formula, Tim believes in reading the crowd and responding to the atmosphere. Music selection, timing, phrasing and an understanding of energy all contribute to a memorable DJ performance.
His approach reflects a respect for the foundations of DJing alongside an appreciation of modern equipment and production techniques. Whether performing an intimate set or playing to a lively dancefloor, his focus remains on musical connection and creating an experience that feels natural, engaging and authentic.

DJ TIM SPINS AS A MENTOR AT LONDON DJ ACADEMY

After years of performing and working within the club industry, Tim developed a strong commitment to teaching. Over the past decade, he has helped hundreds of students learn the art of DJing, sharing practical knowledge gained through his own experience.
As a key instructor and mentor at London DJ Academy, he works with beginners, developing DJs and students looking to refine their existing techniques. His teaching focuses on practical skills, including beatmatching, mixing, music selection, phrasing, cue points, loops, equipment setup and preparing a structured DJ set.
Tim understands that every student learns differently. His approach combines clear instruction, hands-on practice and personalised guidance, helping students build confidence while developing a solid technical foundation.
His teaching is informed by the skills he has used throughout his career: listening carefully, understanding musical structure, making considered selections and knowing when to introduce the next track.
For students who want to explore DJing professionally, he also provides insight into the wider industry, including preparation, presentation, musical identity and the realities of performing for an audience.

DEVELOPING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DJs

London DJ Academy represents a continuation of the musical heritage and practical experience associated with Pengeparty. The academy brings together professional DJ knowledge, structured training and personalised mentorship to help students progress towards their individual ambitions.
Tim’s contribution extends beyond teaching technical skills. He encourages students to develop their own musical tastes, understand the equipment they use and build the confidence to perform independently.
Whether someone wants to learn DJing as a hobby, prepare for their first performance or work towards a professional career, Tim’s approach centres on helping them understand the craft rather than simply relying on automated features or shortcuts.
Student feedback published by London DJ Academy reflects this emphasis on patient instruction, practical demonstrations and building confidence through hands-on learning.

A CONTINUING COMMITMENT TO MUSIC AND CLUB CULTURE

From his early career as DJ Hermes to his evolution into DJ Tim Spins, his involvement with Pengeparty and his work as an educator, Tim’s journey has remained connected by a lasting passion for music.
His experience combines performance, promotion, international club culture and DJ education. Through London DJ Academy, he continues to share that knowledge with people discovering DJing for the first time and those looking to take their skills further.
For Tim, DJing is about more than technical ability. It is about understanding music, connecting with people, respecting the foundations of the craft and continuing to learn.
Whether behind the decks or guiding a student through their first successful mix, DJ Tim Spins remains committed to the music and the community that have shaped his career.
